Meet Cheryl, Our May In The Spotlight!

headshotWe have all heard her name! Perhaps you have heard her speak at a luncheon? Or even have had the opportunity to get to know her on a personal or professional level? We are kicking off the 2017-2018 In The Spotlight series with our very own Cheryl Nabell!
“In Ephesians 4:1 the apostle Paul wrote, “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received,” and for many years that verse has been my guiding principle. We all have different talents, personalities, life situations, and callings, but I always strive to live in a manner that glorifies the Lord and benefits those around me. Honestly, some days I do a better job of that than others, but I wake up every morning with a renewed effort to do my best. I am much more passionate about relationships and people than accomplishments and tasks. Often that means that I don’t get everything crossed off my “to do” list, but I try to stay focused on what is truly important, and for me, that is my family, friends, and faith.”

What better way to introduce Cheryl then to have her speak from the heart, because her heart is what people immediately see when they meet her. Married to Mark for 30 years (in August) she and her longtime love met in college. Together they have raised three children, all who attended East Carolina University. Often you can find Cheryl going for a run, playing a game of tennis, or hanging out on the beautiful beaches of Wilmington. She and her husband currently reside on Wrightsville Beach, but also have a beach house on Topsail, salt and sun is a major part of the Nabell family.
Cheryl has been working for JJ Wade & Associates for two years. They are a large independent agency based in Davidson, NC and Cheryl manages their Wilmington office. She has been in property and casualty insurance for her entire professional life. A large percentage of her business is commercial. She loves the uniqueness of her job, where no two companies are the same. She learns how various organizations operate and the procedures and processes they use. “Likewise, personal lines insurance here on the coast is anything but dull.” Says Cheryl. “Our hurricane exposure makes writing home and auto insurance an ever0evolving challenge.”

Cheryl has been a licensed insurance agent for 15 years. However, she started as an actuary. In that capacity, she set rates and reserves for all lines of P&C insurance and worked on large accounts such as General Motors. While a very rewarding job, it was quite demanding. After the birth of her first two children, Cheryl took some time off from work to be with her children. After several years, she was ready to re-enter the work force. Cheryl found that being an agent was much more interesting and a better fit for her life stage. She is grateful for the actuarial experience as it has given her a unique advantage in her field.
How did she end up in CREW? Well, Cheryl joined over 6 years ago. She has found benefits both professionally and personally. She has received some great referrals and made connections that have not only enhanced her business but have given her long-lasting friendships.
“I am grateful to have met some of the finest women in the Cape Fear region through CREW. These women have helped me to develop better leadership and networking skills and their support is incredible. I have also had the benefit of attending two CREW Network Conventions where I gained a better insight of the scope and vision of CREW through powerful speakers and networking opportunities with amazingly accomplished women. I am proud to be president of Cape Fear CREW this year, and I hope that I am able to continue the legacy of great women in our chapter to grow our chapter in both size and quality. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. “

Beyond work, Cheryl is involved with her church, Christ Community Church. She was vice chairman and found member of the ECU Honors College Parent’s Council, and is also a member of the Coast Networking Group. She has been a member of the Cape Fear Garden Club for 12 years. She is chair of the oversight committee, a member of the Azalea Garden Tour, and just recently joined the Realtors Commercial Alliance of SE North Carolina.
